Marin Community Foundation

Curious led our team through a rigorous process centered on Moms striving for self-sufficiency. Together, we crafted compelling insights around the Moms' journeys, including their experiences of living in poverty and navigating social services in the county. Most importantly, Curious helped us frame strategic design opportunities that have focused and re-energized our team.

THE CHALLENGE

Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in California, Marin is dramatically segregated and racially and financially inequitable. These inequities are especially acute for Moms, many of whom are raising families on their own.

The Approach

In partnership with the foundation team, we interviewed Moms striving to be financially self sufficient and the local grantees serving them. Together we generated a range of new solutions. With input from Moms, we refined and recommended solutions with greatest promise.

The SOLUTION

We developed and vetted four innovative concepts to make it easier for moms to access social services, learn from one another, save and access money and, most ambitiously, become homeowners. MCF is currently ramping up to pilot concepts in 2021.
